PreK Homework-January 2014
*will be sent home on day 1 (either Tuesday or Wednesday)
*needs to be returned on day 2 (Thursday or Friday) I can help students finish or complete their page if you don’t get it done. Please return it so it can be sent home with the next child.
*Parent should read story from beginning and have child think of what might happen next. Have them draw a picture and tell you the words to write.
*Please do not draw their picture for them. If your child has trouble drawing, show them how you might do it on another sheet and let them draw it in the book. The children are all at different stages of drawing. I only ask they do their best!
*Use only one page for their work to ensure enough pages in the book for all the students.
*The book will go home with another child the next time so by the end of the project, every child will have illustrated and written one page in each of the books.
*Each child will get to keep the book they initially started.
My goal for these books is that
*the children practice their drawing and fine motor skills
*use their creative thoughts to tell a story- however silly it is!
*see that books have an author and an illustrator ( I will talk about these words a lot)
*see that the spoken word can become a written word
*begin to understand books have a start, middle and end
*begin to understand books read from left to right, top to bottom
Thank you for taking the time to do these projects with your child. As your child grows homework will serve many purposes. One is to reinforce ideas and skills learned during the day. I hope that with this project, it will not be a stressful time for you but that you’ll be able to enjoy a few minutes together with your child. Do not panic if life is crazy one week and you don’t get to it! We can finish it up at school, I’d rather have a blank one back than have you keep it into the next week.
